What "Palace" Really Means

A distinction awarded by the French State — not a marketing star

Since 2010, the French Ministry of Economy has granted the Palace distinction to a tiny handful of five-star hotels judged exceptional in history, architecture, service culture and contribution to French influence abroad.

Fewer than thirty establishments hold it nationwide, and only a dozen sit inside Paris. Four of the five hotels documented on this site carry the title; the fifth, Shangri-La Paris, occupies a building classified as a Monument Historique — a protection arguably rarer still.

Our editors keep this dossier free of affiliate booking widgets. Every "Visit Official Website" button sends you straight to the hotel's own domain, where rates, cancellation terms and suite inventory are authoritative.
